Nox Composites Announces The New Kitsuma 27.5 Carbon Fiber Mountain Wheels

Super wide and super sexy. There are times in life when you just don't care about light weight, pansy mountain bike rims. Like when you're staring down a fall line, psyching yourself up for riding at your limit. These are the times when a rim like the Kitsuma belongs on your bike.

Time and time again, the benefits of a wide rim have been shown. We've been hesitant to go this wide for a long time, since the selection of tires that work well for a rim like this were lacking, but times are changing and tires are now available which take full advantage of a beast of a rim like this. When you put on properly sized 2.35-3.0" tires on this rim, get ready to experience grip and lateral holding forces like you didn't think were possible on a mountain bike. The combination of stiffness, stability, compliance, low rolling resistance and raw grip are game changing. Note: If you are planning to run 2.1-2.3" XC tires, you will be better served with one of our narrower rims.

The Kitsuma gets all of our latest technology, including UniWeave construction, the Anti-Burp Bump, the strongest RockGuard Hookless bead lip we've ever made and of course our asymmetric offset design which improves spoke tension equality by more than 15%. The DH version of this rim shares the same profile but adds about 50g of material to add stiffness and structural integrity for DH style riding.

We offer the Kitsuma 275 as a single rim or a complete wheelset. Our wheelsets are handbuilt right here in Tennessee using only the best components; Sapim CX-Ray bladed or double butted Race spokes and DT Swiss alloy Pro Lock squorx nipples. Hub choices include Chris King, Industry Nine, Hope, DT Swiss, Project 321 and Onyx. To see a comparison of all our hubs check out the hub comparison chart. Wheel builds come with our TPP tape and tubeless valves installed. All wheelsets are built to order and it may take 2 weeks before wheelsets ship.

"Bicycle Fabrications was founded in 2007. Our main passion has always been gravity racing oriented, but in the early days we were building all sorts of things. We thought we were going to be like any other small builder – taking orders for whatever people wanted us to make them. If you take a look at our past projects, you’ll get some idea of the range we covered – everything from road bikes to a tandem downhill bike to a wooden-tubed lugged bike.

After a couple years, it became clear that we were spreading ourselves too thin. We really wanted to focus on developing the kind of bikes that we were most interested in riding ourselves. There are plenty of options for people who want road bikes and beach cruisers, but not a lot of options for those of us that want  built-to-order, high performance, low-maintenance steel full-suspension bikes. A lot of stuff on the market gives you the impression that when you buy a bike, most of the money goes to the graphic designer, the paint shop, and the warranty department. We wanted to give an alternative to the privateer enthusiast, the rider who doesn’t want dozens of tiny bearings or linkages that look like they’re meant to confuse more than to perform. If this sounds like you, then you’re in the right place."

LAURIE GREENLAND CROWNED AS WORLD CHAMPION

After a very strong World Cup season never being out of the top 3, and winning the overall World Cup title, Trek World Racing’s Laurie Greenland backed up his silver medal from 2014 by taking it a top step further, winning the World Championship and receiving the coveted UCI Rainbow Jersey.

Meanwhile his team mates Brook MacDonald and George Brannigan had strong showings with both being the fastest at the 2nd interval during their run, but Brook unfortunately came off his bike in the steep technical section, and George suffered from a lack of upper body strength and rode the final sector a little too tightly and lost time precious time, but still finished 15th.

Laurie said: “I’ve loved this track ever since we got here, whether it was in the pouring rain or drying out as it was for the final race. The last steep sector is really the type of riding I love the best. Before the run I was in the start house, had some quiet thoughts to myself about how far things have come in these past two years, and just tried to remain relaxed. I sprinted a little too hard out of the start and had to sit down on the bridge and recover a bit but then I just got into it. Martin (Maes) put up a great time and I’m just happy the result went my way today. It really is a huge honor to win this title and
do so in front of friends and family who came to Andorra to support me.”

Laurie’s World Title brings to 4 the number of World Championships won by the team since its inception, 2 in Downhill and 2 in XC.

Team Owner Martin Whiteley said: “It was a tough start to the week when a major storm hit the area and several teams including us suffered major damage to our team set up. Fortunately we managed to recover quickly from that and get on with the racing. Brook and George once again showed speed during the week but the World Champs run is a tough race where you have to give it everything and it doesn’t always pay off, but I’m extremely proud of how they’ve represented the team with poise and professionalism all year. Laurie’s result just caps off a brilliant season. He’s continued to grow as an athlete and his ability to read a race and deliver are exceptional. To end this season on such a high, adding Laurie’s gold medal to the 3 golds, 4 silvers and bronze the team has already achieved over the years, was a great bonus for all the staff and sponsors of TWR.”
