Turner RFX V4 Announced

The Turner RFX, first introduced in 1999, began life as one of the first purpose-built ‘free ride’ bikes renowned for excellent descending manners and efficient pedaling in a world where few bikes could do both. Subsequent models set new standards for longevity under the harshest conditions, with most RFX’s still in use today.

Fast forward to 2016 and the RFX is better than ever, using Toray High Modulus Carbon Fiber we were able to tune the ride of the new RFX to maximize its enduroability. As to be expected from a Turner Bike, there is fantastic tire clearance even with massive 2.4 tires, 160mm travel, dw-Link suspension, and an all new headtube dimension allowing customization of the head angle in half degree increments to a very slack 65° with a 160 fork. Some could build it up light as a long-travel trail bike, while others will build it up as a mid-travel Park slayer. In between is the true purpose of the RFX: Enduro domination. Whether you are riding the gnarliest local trails or the Enduro World Series, let the RFX redefine your experience.

More Traction, More Fun - Introducing Niner Carbon Wheels

At Niner, we know a thing or two about how 29ers ride, so in designing our new wheels, we set out to incorporate some key features that directly affect performance and your fun out on the trails. We've adopted wider rim widths for lateral strength and increased tire volume. Higher volume means you can run lower pressures for better comfort and traction, and because the tire beads sit wider you won't have that squirmy feel through the corners. Our offset drilling pattern leads to even spoke tensions, that when coupled with the optimized rim shapes produce laterally stiff and durable wheels. We finished them off with Stan's trusted Bead Socket Technology for easy and reliable tubeless setup so all you have to do is enjoy the ride.

XC Carbon
When you're looking for a new set of XC wheels, and you want something that's going to be light, dependable and fast, the new 1525 gram XC Carbons deliver.

The shape optimized full carbon rim strikes the perfect balance of 30mm width and 30mm depth to provide point-and-shoot control with a smooth, comfortable ride. The Stan's Bead Socket Technology 24mm channel has a low sidewall helping save weight, but more importantly allowing a rounder, more effective tire profile, and with it higher volume for more traction and reduced rolling resistance. And when it comes to tubeless set up, the BST 'socket' shape sets the bar for safe and secure tire engagement.

To compliment the rim, we've gone the extra mile in the build process to make sure you can enjoy every bit of performance. By incorporating an offset drilling pattern, we lace the rims up with 28 Sandvik stainless steel straight pull spokes. This ensures more even spoke tension and ultimately gives you a stiffer, more durable and fast feeling wheel.

TR Carbon
The new TR Carbon wheels open a new chapter in Niner's book of wheel building. Starting with what we've learned from our previous hoops, the TR Carbons incorporate the knowledge we've gained with updated, modern mountain bike features, to create an entirely new platform.

The full carbon rim is specially shaped for strength and performance. The 41mm external width pairs with a 30mm depth to build a bomber wheel that will track straight in the most demanding situations, and stand up to miles of abuse. A 35mm Stan's Bead Socket Technology channel provides a wide platform with low sidewalls that gives your big tires an even bigger air volume and better shape. This means you can run lower tire pressures for excellent traction and a supple ride while still maintaining tire integrity. And if you run your tires tubeless, there is no better system than Stan's BST when it comes to ease of set up and reliable seal out on the trails.

Because these wheels are intended to tackle tough terrain, we've taken measures in the build process to make sure they're up to the task. The rim is drilled with an offset pattern to create better spoke triangulation. The benefit is better balanced tensioning of the 32 Sandvik stainless steel J-bend spokes giving you a stiffer, more durable wheel that will take on any trail.

Laurie Greenland Wins in Windham and Wraps up Series Title

After qualifying 7th on Friday Laurie Greenland had a nerve wracking wait in the hotseat during the finals as 6 of the best juniors in the world attempted to beat his race time of 2m 49.9secs. Laurie was suffering from hay fever for qualifying lacking his usual energy, and the track in Windham which was running extremely loose and fast, provided its own set of challenges. Fastest qualifier Jacob Dickson went faster than Laurie at split one so it was an anxious 90secs of waiting to see if Laurie’s time would hold. In the end Laurie scored his 3rd World Cup win in a row, by a margin of 0.7secs.

With main rival Andrew Crimmins finishing 6th Laurie gained a sufficient points advantage to secure the 2015 World Cup Downhill for Junior Men, with one round remaining. This is a great achievement for the young rider from Bristol who has continued to grow and learn throughout his junior career and caps off a 5 race winning streak that started at the iXS Cup in Schladming.

Laurie said: “When Martin told me I’d won the overall I couldn’t actually believe what I was hearing, I mean I only just got the leader jersey back last week so it took some time to sink in. Even when I crossed the line in the race I was afraid it may not be enough for the win. I thought my first sector went really well and that gave me some confidence for the rest of the run, but it turns out my 2nd sector was the strongest. It’s a massively good feeling to go to Italy for the final round in Val Di Sole without any pressure for the series and just enjoy the race. I’m really proud of this title and want to thank my family, team and sponsors for all their support these past 2 seasons.”

Unfortunately for Brook MacDonald and George Brannigan the Windham track bit back as both crashed early on while pushing to the limit. Both of their initial incidents happened off camera and Brook suffered a mechanical due to the crash when his grip slid 3cm along his handlebar affecting the rest of his run. George continued to push after his first crash which resulted in a number of excursions off course. Both riders are fine and did not suffer any injury other than some skin abrasions.

Greg Williamson aimed to improve both his race time and position from the qualifier, which he did easily. Greg found 8 seconds and improved 34 places, which resulted in an improvement in his World Cup ranking of a further 2 spots.

The team now heads to Europe to prepare for the final round of the series in Val Di Sole, Italy, a classic track known for being extremely steep and strewn with roots, and it will also host the World Championships in 2016.
