2017 Pivot Firebird Announced

The Firebird is the no-compromise, Holy Grail of long travel mountain bikes – both an enduro bike that devours park runs and a technical climber that relishes huge lines and blazing descents. For park riders, the Firebird’s long front-center and short chainstay combination provides that nimble, snappy feel that encourages bold line choices while staying fully in control at World Cup speeds.

    Pivot Firebird Geometry

    Firebird Geometry

Taking a page from the Phoenix DH Carbon’s progressive geometry, the Firebird features some of the longest reach measurements in the sport, combined with super-short, 16.95”chainstays. The resulting long front-center keeps the front wheel in contact with the trail on the ups and gives the Firebird a perfectly balanced, highly capable technical climbing ability over rough terrain. When descending, the Firebird’s long and low geometry puts the rider “in” the bike for increased stability at high speeds and on steep technical challenges while the short chainstay measurements provide a maneuverable, dynamic ride that makes it easy to put the bike where you want it.

    DW Link

Dave Weagle, the brains behind dw‐link® and Chris Cocalis, Pivot’s president and founder, collaborate on every Pivot suspension design. For the Firebird Carbon, they have created a bike that uses the best attributes of the dw‐link® for the ultimate in downhill and climbing performance. With the dw‐link’s anti squat and variable wheel travel path, we were able to optimize the Firebird’s rearward axle path in the first 1/3rd of the travel to provide incredible square edge bump absorption (similar to our Phoenix DH bike) with pedaling efficiency equal to the Mach 6. This ensures that the new Firebird carbon both descends and pedals better than anything else in the category.

    Fox Suspension

The Firebird is spec’d with the class-leading Fox Float X2 factory shock*. This choice is based directly on feedback from our top racers – the Fox Float X2 air shock offers incredible control and a plusher feel allowing riders to go faster with greater confidence. The X2 shock features independent high and low speed compression and rebound adjustments, an EVOL air sleeve for coil shock-like sensitivity, Kashima coating and the X2’s new RVS (Rod Valve System) for incredible damping control and an ultra-plush ride. Between the high low speed compression and rebound adjustments, as well as air spring and air volume adjust; the Fox Float X2 is easily the most tunable shock for the entire ranges of rider weights and course conditions. For riders whose passion is seeking new lines and uncharted adventure, the new climb switch on the Float X2 shock makes the Firebird an Enduro-style rider’s best choice for getting up and down the mountain. To match the Firebird’s rear suspension, we’ve paired it with the newest 170mm Fox 36 Factory Boost fork – ideal for aggressive, balanced handling in advanced terrain.* * XTR/XT Pro, and XO1 Eagle Pro bikes feature the Float X Performance rear shock, which features hard anodized body and independent low speed compression and rebound adjustments. XT Race builds feature the Float X2 Performance rear shock and Fox 36 Performance Boost fork.

    Carbon Design

Long days both up and down the mountain require a strong chassis that is light enough to make climbing fun. The heart of the new Firebird is a uniquely designed Pivot carbon frame with a Phoenix DH-inspired double wishbone rear triangle and ultra-stiff linkage design. With our own hollow core, internal, high compression carbon molding process and the right combination of composite materials and shapes, we are able to deliver a high end frame that meets the same stringent testing requirements for strength and stiffness as our downhill bike at a significantly lower weight, making it possible to build a complete bike below 28 pounds.

    All The Right Details

The Firebird features the latest version of the Pivot Cable Port system. This system offers easy, clean internal routing of shifters, brakes and droppers and features large ports for quick and easy routing and service. Housing clamps each entry and exit point keep all your lines 100% secure and quiet, because nobody likes a noisy bike. For those seeking every advantage, the Firebird offers full Di2 electronic shifting integration co-developed in partnership with Shimano. The Firebird comes all prepped and ready for 1X gearing, but is easily set up for two chainrings via Pivot’s ultra-clean, removable front derailleur mount. This precisely engineered mount offers the best shifting performance you can get, utilizing Shimano’s new side-swing front derailleur system and is included with every frame. Other essential details include ultra-quiet, low durometer, rubberized frame protection in all the key locations, 180mm post mount disc brake mounts for easy set up and weight savings, and Enduro Max cartridge bearings throughout. The Firebird is available in four sizes to fit riders from 5’4” to 6’7”+ from S to XL.

    Firebird Builds

The Firebird complete bike models are designed with high-performance, rugged riding in mind, with both durability and light weight as key considerations. Pivot offers a full range of specification levels to meet your performance requirements, and every build is one we ride ourselves. Visit our complete bike tab for complete details on the many different available for your bike. We take quality and workmanship seriously at Pivot, and know that the details are what make a great rider experience. Every Pivot Cycles frame undergoes a 28-step assembly and quality control check to ensure that every ride on the Firebird exceeds your expectations.

The Firebird is the no-compromise, Holy Grail of long travel mountain bikes – both an enduro bike that devours park runs and a technical climber that relishes huge lines and blazing descents.

Building on its reputation as the bike for all-day missions on black diamond terrain, the Firebird features Phoenix DH-inspired long reach measurements combined with a 65-degree head angle to deliver unmatched stability and handling. When descending, this geometry puts the rider “in” the bike, for increased stability at high speeds and on steep technical challenges while the short chainstay measurements make for a bike that goes exactly where you put it.

Guerrilla Gravity Announces The Trail Pistol

The boys from GG have announced their new short travel 29" slay machine call the Trail Pistol! Looks like they where thinking of all you dentists out there and made the frame able to accommodate 27.5 + wheels as well...

As the “Singletrack Flyer,” the Trail Pistol inspires the kind of fun you only experience in the pit of a punk rock show. The kind of reckless fun that reminds you why you started mountain biking in the first place.

Designed to explore miles of endless singletrack with its efficient pedalling platform and rally the descents with its stiff chassis, progressive leverage curve, and playful geometry. The Trail Pistol allows you to keep in mind what’s really important: riding fast and having fun--but remember the lessons of Sid Vicious: safety third, not fourth.

And don’t be held back by the man: pick the wheelsize that’s right for your life. Crush Mode and Plush Mode, accessed via the shock mount flip chip, optimizes the geometry and suspension for 29” wheel-ed crushing or 27.5 Plus wheel-ed plushness--just like the fine velour carpet on the walls of your favorite music venue.

    Frame Highlights

    • GG-style Geometry: 120 mm travel, 16.9” chainstays, roomy cockpit, 66.6º head tube angle with a 130 mm travel fork (+/- .4º per 10 mm of travel)
    • Crush Mode & Plush Mode
      • Crush Mode: made for goin’ fast on 29” wheels
      • Plush Mode: maintains a consistent BB height between wheelsizes, steepens the head angle a degree, and reduces the progression in the suspension. Ideal for 27.5 Plus wheels, but can be used as a less aggressive mode with 29” wheels. No need to change forks or fork travel for either wheelsize
      • No fork swap necessary to use either wheelsize!
    • Future-proof Tire Clearance: 29x2.6; 27.5x3.0 (both are actual measurements, not claimed--since all tire manufacturers seem to use a different ruler)
    • Low Standover: improves agility, specifically on smaller frame sizes
    • Optimized Seat Tube Angle: The steeper angle maintains consistent geo as the saddle is raised and lowered
    • “Follow the Leader” Standards: Boost 148 rear end and 210x50 metric shock sizing
    • Robust Hardware: Universal Syntace derailleur hanger and axle system and easily-accessed Enduro Maxx bearings
    • Super sweet Trail Pistol t-shirt exclusively provided with bike purchases (pic below)
    • Frame Storage: Ditch the pack with the NUTS (Necessities Under the Saddle) Bracket and water bottle mounts (pic below)

    Freedom Linkage

"We used our background in race car engineering to create the Freedom Linkage, a highly refined suspension platform that eliminates unnecessary complication. This creates a platform that's made for goin' fast, yet is easy to maintain and built to last. Plus, it's built right here in our shop. Those are pure American welds (f* yeah!)!"

Guerrilla Gravity Trail Pistol Build Kits

    2017 EWS Calender Announced

The Enduro World Series is delighted to reveal its 2017 race calendar as it continues its mission to uncover the world’s best riding destinations.

The new season, the series’ fifth, will feature eight rounds across three continents, with the addition of three completely new and exciting venues.

March will see the first competition of the year head back to familiar territory of Rotorua, in the North Island of New Zealand. Part of the Crankworx World Tour, riders competing in the Giant Toa Enduro will get the chance to once more explore this magical land filled with smoking geysers, lush rainforest and some of the most challenging singletrack the Southern Hemisphere has to offer.

The series will stay down under for round two as it then skips across the Tasman Sea to Shimano Enduro Tasmania. This wild and remote island off the Southern Coast of Australia will offer riders a real adventure as they explore the famous trails around Derby in the north east of the island. The area has become synonymous with world class mountain biking in recent years, and riders will get to experience everything from fern forests to granite slabs as they take in the stunning views on offer.

Round three sees the series travel north to County Wicklow in Ireland to revisit the Emerald Enduro. It’s the third time the EWS will visit Carrick Mountain, which is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the wildest races on the circuit thanks to the crazy fans who line the tracks in their thousands. This one day race has become an EWS classic and with good reason – the atmosphere can only be described as electric!

The island of Madeira is the setting for round four, the Enduro World Series Powered by Freeride Madeira. Lying in the Atlantic Ocean between Portugal and the Africa, this small island is home to some of the most diverse terrain on earth. From rocky singletrack down volcanoes to tight trails through native forests, riders will get to experience an incredible selection of both natural and purpose built trails that have recently helped put Madeira on the global mountain biking map.

Staying in Europe, round five will see the series land in France for the Natural Games Millau EWS driven by URGE bp. For the first time the EWS will join forces with the Natural Games, a celebration of adventure sports including climbing, kayaking and paragliding amongst others. Located in the south of the country, Millau will offer exciting racing on rocky, natural, ancient and technical trails that typify the riding style of the region.

It’s across the pond to Aspen Snowmass for round six, the Big Mountain Enduro Aspen Snowmass. Nestled in the high mountains of Colorado, this world famous resort is becoming as well known for its trail network as it is its ski runs. Racers can look forward to a mixture of classic high altitude Colorado singletrack alongside some man made fun in the Snowmass Bike Park.

It’s more North American adventure for round seven as the series lands in Whistler and straight into Crankworx, the world’s biggest mountain bike festival. The SRAM Canadian Open Enduro presented by Specialized is an annual fixture on the EWS calendar and with good reason – big crowds, big prize money and even bigger mountains in this most iconic of resorts.

Where else to end the series but on the shores of the Mediterranean in the beautiful Finale Ligure for the Bluegrass Finalenduro powered by SRAM. There’s a reason the series always finishes in this beautiful town in the Italian Riviera – Finale Outdoor Resort’s ever growing network of world class trails, huge crowds and the obligatory swim in the sea for whoever is crowned World Champion at this end of season extravaganza.

Chris Ball, Managing Director of the Enduro World Series, commented: “The series is always trying to push boundaries and discover new riding locations adding adventure into fantastic riding, great communities and brilliant organisers, and our fifth season celebrates this ethos. The three new venues will offer riders a new experience – the islands of Madeira and Tasmania are wild and remote and will prove the gateway to some unforgettable adventures. Then the Natural Games in Millau will be the first time the EWS has been part of a multi sport festival and I’m really looking forward to seeing enduro being included in this celebration of the outdoors. The venues we’re returning to are included in the calendar because they’re hard to beat; Ireland, Aspen, Finale and Rotorua are all incredible riding locations and I think 2017 is shaping up to be an amazingly exciting and fun year of racing.”
