Scott Introduces The Gambler Tuned

The all NEW Gambler Tuned was designed for one thing and one thing only, pure, unadulterated speed. We made it to get you to take lines you’d never thought imaginable, to make you want to go to the bathroom before your race run - twice. We made it so that when you drop out of the start gate, the only aspect holding you back will be, well, you. Taking years of racing development and mixing it with our carbon expertise, this bike is our answer to the needs of white-knuckle downhill racing.

Adjustability

Our downhill bikes have always pushed the boundaries of adjustability. Both a rider and a bike need to be able to adapt to tracks, weather conditions and choice of shock (air or coil.) The new Gambler allows you to switch between wheelsizes without changing any other components on the bike.

Chain stay length can also be adjusted, independent of wheelsize choice. Short with 29”, sure thing. Long with 27.5? Yep, that too. The Gambler also comes with spare angled headset cups, so that you can adjust head angle relative to wheelsize, fork choice etc.

We also have a 4-way chip to allow not only bottom bracket height adjustment relative to wheelsize, but more importantly for geometry/kinematic tweaks depending on tracks, shocks or rider preference. We want the bike to be optimizable for each shock and rider given the track.

All this adjustment allows us to focus on balance. And by balance, we mean on the perfect combinations to find traction. Geometry and shock curve options help get a rider’s center of mass in the perfect spot between the wheels for optimum levels of balance and traction. However, as race tracks change, this balance point changes, and not all bikes can change with it – we wanted to be able to do so.

For instance, a bike with geometry for a steep track will roll slowly and push wide in turns on a flatter track, whereas a bike set up for flatter tracks will make it difficult for a rider to keep their center of gravity far enough back for steep tracks.

Geometry

Compared to previous Gambler platforms, we now offer 4 sizes – S, M, L and XL. All sizes have been upsized and modernized with regards to geometry, providing an option for riders of all sizes. We don’t need to tell you any more about how the bike’s geometry is dialed for the job it has, but we do have some interesting points to mention. Saddle position is often very critical for racers, especially shorter ones. If a saddle that CAN give enough extra tire clearance to lower, or slide back the saddle by 10mm, it can make a huge difference. With the Gambler, we steepened the seat tube angle on the small and medium sized frames, which allows smaller riders to keep their saddle low and to avoid the dreaded tire buzz. For larger riders, we made sure to keep the saddle out of the leg area leaving riders free to move around in the air, in corners etc.

GSTAAD-SCOTT Welcomes Neko Mulally

Neko Mulally has joined Brendan Fairclough to form the new Gstaad-SCOTT, and while you are reading this the two are already working on the new bike setup together with SCOTT and FOX. Both will be riding the 2015 SCOTT Gambler 710 with FOX as the Suspension Sponsor and components from Schwalbe, DT Swiss, Shimano, Syncros, E*Thirteen.

This is what team manager Claudio Caluori has to say, “Working with Neko has been amazing right from the start. I couldn’t believe how clear, straight forward and target-oriented this young fellow is, and how easily he has made things happen to get going with the bike testing. I can’t wait to go to the World Cups with Brendan and Neko, and to see them chase each other down the mountain.”

Sports director Cyril Lagneau also feels the positive vibes heading into the new season, stating that, “Neko is surprisingly professional at his young age. We are making big progress with regards to the product development since he has come on board as he gives us very specific feedback on what we can improve.”

Neko, coming off a great season last year has been quite eager to share the news. “I am so stoked to finally announce my new ride! I have put in the hours on this bike, and I really feel like it suits my riding style very well. Continuing on with FOX and many other sponsors that I am familiar with, along with great communication between SCOTT, the team, and myself has made the transition easy. Riding alongside Brendan will be sick- I think we are both going to have a great time and kick some ass this year!”

Brendan is also looking forward to having Neko on board. “It’s great to have another top rider on the team. We have already had a great time riding and hanging out in France during preseason together and are looking forward to a great race season ahead. Neko has a good relationship with FOX and an extremely professional attitude towards racing- hoping that can help us both get the results we want and make this bike and team the fastest on the circuit."

We’ve re-structured the team in order to increase the efficiency within the team and also to intensify the cooperation with our existing partners in order to get the maximum out of the relationships and to provide the best environment possible for athletes and sponsors.

Emilie Siegenthaler, Patrick Thome and Noel Niederberger have gone in different directions in 2015 and we wish them nothing but the best.

Many thanks for the growing support from all of our partners:GSTAAD, SCOTT, FOX, Velosolutions, Schwalbe, DT Swiss, Shimano, Syncros, E*Thirteen!

Let’s get this season started!

Brendan Fairclough And Red Bull Bring Us A 360 View Of The 2012 Hafjell UCI WC Track

The Scott11 team and Norwegian producers Making View strapped a specialist remoted-controlled on-board camera to leading rider Brendan Fairclough.

He and team-mates Floriane Pugin and Noel Niederberger set off down the mountain after official practice at the season-ending World Cup 2012 round in Norway, and they held nothing back…

Hafjell is an awesome location – the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup circus loves it so much after one visit that next year cross-country will join downhill on the scheduled Norway stop – and this video, a world-first for MTB, makes it look even better.

Start by following Floriane down the course, then swing round to see how Noel is doing behind – you can even look down and watch Brendan soaking up every bump on the track with a bird’s-eye view!

This really is downhill mountain biking as you’ve never seen it before – no wonder it was high-fives all round for the Scott11 guys at the bottom of the hill.

•Brendan Fairclough and his Scott11 team-mates take on the awesome downhill course at Hafjell Bike Park in Norway during the UCI World Cup in 2012
•Brendan Fairclough, born in 1988 and from Guildford, UK, joined the Scott11 team for 2012 after recovering from knee surgery and has enjoyed a solid World Cup season, as well as winning the iXS EDC round in Châtel, France.
•The video is a first in MTB, providing a unique and unparalleled 360-degree view of a downhill run, controlled directly by the viewer; even Brendan couldn’t get this view!
•Making View’s specialist remote-controlled 360-degree video camera weighs just 600g, meaning it was easily able to capture multiple views of Hafjell from Brendan’s helmet without affecting his ability to shred the course.
•Brendan Fairclough brings you this unique 360-degree POV video of the Hafjell MTB World Cup track, but it’s you who uses your mouse or keyboard to choose his viewpoint! Red Bull, Scott11, Velosolutions and film-makers Making View produced this world-first experience.

2013 Scott Gambler 10

The Gambler 10 is Brendan Fairclough’s World Cup DH replica, a no-compromise DH weapon with custom race-tuned FOX suspension and podium proven components. The Gambler features lower and slacker geometry, a longer shock and tuned leverage ratio. This is World Cup level performance for everyone.

Build Kit

  • Frame: SCOTT Gambler Alloy 6061
  • Fork: Fox 40 RC2 FIT 203mm, Coil
  • Shock: Fox DHX RC2 Coil Boost valve, 210mm travel
  • Group set: Shimano Saint / Zee
  • Brakes: Shimano Zee
  • Parts: Funn
  • Wheels: DT Swiss FR 600, Formula DH-92 20mm thru axle Hub

Features

Floating Link

The floating link enabled SCOTT engineers to mix comfort and support, providing the riders with exactly what they need to go fast. There is a subtle dual progressive curve to achieve the goals, but not too exaggerated to avoid shock tuning limitations.

The floating link creates a progressive feeling suspension with an almost direct compression of the shock, minimizing DU bushing rotation. This increases shock bushing life and improves small bump sensitivity.
IDS X Dropout
IDS-X dropouts enable the rider to hold a tighter line when the drifting gets rough. This is mainly due to the fact that sliding the rear end becomes easier with a more consistent feel. In addition, the axles are simpler to use and stiffer than traditional pinch bolt rear axles.

The combination of a conical interface and eccentric axle ends add torsional rigidity and ease of us compared to a traditional pinch bolt design.

Adjustable BB Height
When designing the adjustable WC DH race geometry on the new Gambler we knew we wanted to offer what the pros have as stock. However, we also wanted to make sure normal riders would not be held back. Therefore, this bike has two distinctly different feeling setups.

The Gambler has two BB height options adjusted by the lower shock bolt. The lower hole provides a 0mm BB Drop, while the upper hole gives a +10mm BB Drop.

The Gambler has two head angle options adjusted by the lower shock bolt. The lower hole provides a 62° head angle while the upper hole gives a 63° head angle. The head tube is also very short allowing an extra degree of adjustment by raising or lowering the crowns of the fork. Three centimeters of additional fork height equals one degree of head angle adjustment.

Downtube Protector
The down tube of a DH bike gets abused by rocks kicked up by the front wheel on a regular basis. This adhesive backed lightweight guard provides huge protection where it matters most.
