DVO Suspension Website Is Live

DVO is short for “Developed” and DVO is a new suspension company with over 80 years of suspension building, tuning, designing, and riding experience.

Bryson Martin, founder and inspiration behind DVO Suspension, has spent his entire professional life, or more than 30 years, working in the bike business. During most of this time, he was an integral driver at Marzocchi Suspension, where Bryson was responsible for many groundbreaking ideas including its legendary Bomber Line. In 2012, Bryson wanted to take this experience to the next level to form a suspension program purely focused on performance and first-rate customer service. Thus DVO Suspension was created.

Bryson began mountain bike riding and racing in the late 1970s, also working in a few bike shops during high school and college. After graduating in the mid 1980s, he joined a small California-based mountain bike company called Brave Cycles. There he raced, managed product and marketing, collaborated on the company’s corporate design campaigns, and learned the ins-and-outs of what it took to compete in the fast-growing mountain bike arena.

Racing a lot of motocross as a kid, Bryson always believed that riders needed suspension on their fully rigid mountain bikes – after all, we’re riding and racing on the same dirt surface as do motorcycles. So why couldn’t riders enjoy suspension on their bikes, too? This idea led to attempts at making his own suspension forks, finally connecting with Marzocchi Suspension in 1989. This decision arose out of familiarity, as many of his motocross bikes came with Marzocchi. Why not give them a try for bicycle suspension?

It wasn’t easy initially, with mountain biking an American sport and invented in America. This European company had more going against it in every way, while Rock Shox and Manitou gained a solid foothold in the burgeoning bicycle suspension business. Nevertheless, following a few decades at Marzocchi – where Bryson handled everything from warranty work to World Cup racing, marketing, global sales, and product innovation – he’d garnered all of the learning and proficiency required to launch his own suspension program: DVO.

Steve Smith Takes Podium Aboard The New Devinci Carbon WIlson

LEOGANG, AUSTRIA—Devinci Global Racing’s Stevie Smith continues his late-season dominance, snatching bronze on his custom Carbon Wilson with a series of podium crushing times at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.

Leogang is home to one of Europe’s top bike parks and features a lightning-fast, jump-filled course. Wavering weather conditions wreaked havoc as they moved from desert dry to monsoon conditions through the week. Saturday’s rain filled practice saw Smith slide into 2nd on a sketchy track after pinning it in the timed runs against the elite pack. Nick Beer finished the day in 6th.

Sunday’s main event brought fans out en masse to see the crowning of a new World Champion. The first podium worthy time was set by the French rider Florent Payet, who remained in the lead until the detonation of the final ten riders.

Smith dropped in from the 10th position and was down by 1.5 at the first split. Seeing the podium through the forest he hit the throttle through the roots, sending it into the hot seat by over half a second—where he sat until the third from last rider arrived. After the fog lifted and final times were registered, Smith would settle for third behind two previous World Champs—Greg Minnaar in first and Gee Atherton in second.

“It’s great to see Steve finish on the podium on the new bike,” said DGR Team Manager, Gabe Fox. “He’s had a hell of a season and the results have solidified nicely with his consecutive wins at Crankworx and now this finish. I’m looking forward to the final World Cup.”

DGR closes out the 2012 World Cup season in Hafjell Norway this weekend.

Devinci Global Racing is proudly supported by: Cycles Devinci, SRAM, RockShox, Avid, Truvativ, Easton Wheels, Schwalbe, E-Thirteen, ODI, Selle Italia, Fox Head Clothing and MyPackage.

Cycles Devinci is a Canadian bicycle manufacturer based in Chicoutimi, Canada. It has led the industry by way of manufacturing expertise and product development since its inception in 1987. Cycles Devinci continues to forge ahead with suspension guru Dave Weagle’s patented Split Pivot suspension platform. Combined with the company’s Axis Technologies, Devinci is set on a path for domination. For more details on Devinci and DGR, visit devinci.com.

2012 Team BGB/Mountain Khakis Snowshoe GES Report

Though the Gravity East Series is based out of the Northeast states of this land of the US of A, we can count on one round coming far enough South for Team BGB-MK to show those Northeasters what the Southeasters are made of….. Snowshoe. Have I mentioned it just so happens to be our fav place to shred (OK, maybe I have, once…. or maybe twice). This weekend would be Team BGB-MK Pro Max Morgan’s return to the SE race scene after spending the summer up in the NE. It would also be a special weekend to remember for one Team BGB-MK rider!!!

As usual, you can’t use the word “Snowshoe” in a sentence without the word “rain”. Quite simply, it’s like peas and carrots, steak and potatoes, peanut butter and jelly, you just can’t have one without the other. The local forecasters were predicting a cold front moving in just about noon time on Saturday. Well, two hours earlier that predicted, that front turned the race course into streams. All of Saturday was a wash, no pun intended. Well, not entirely... .now for the special part of the weekend. You see, race day which just so happened to coincide with Team BGB-MK Lady Rider Heither Schultz’s 40th birthday. SURPRISE! And a surprise it was….. for almost seven months of shear secrecy the team worked to give Heither a surprise with an unexpected family visit, an event/racer surprise party and to top it off a special team jersey. Total success, as she didn’t expect a thing! Happy Birthday Heither!

On to Sunday…… with the showers all day previous, Sunday morning was a slip and slide fest. The grass covered slopes were virtual ice until riders were able to rut the corners working in conjunction with the sun to start to dry things out. As the hour clicked to noon, you really couldn’t ask for better race conditions.

The Men’s Pro class would be a battle between two guys that know each other all too well, Ethan Quehl of Chainsmoke/Judge Racing and Team BGB-MK’s own Max Morgan. These two guys have a connect ion of sorts, growing up an hour from one another in Northern Georgia, riding and racing together for years as Juniors, and most importantly developing a mutual respect of one another’s ability. Ethan got his chance before Max and posted a time of 4:24.47. Six more riders and it was Max’s turn. Max pinned a time just 1.85 seconds off the pace set by Ethan. This day belonged to Ethan… close close racing though, as Max posted the third fastest time of the day, behind Leland O’Connor in second, for the bronze prize (0.39 sec off the second position). GREAT RACING!

Up next….. seems we are in the mist of repeat of the month of July…..3 weeks, 3 races. Off to the final race at Beech Mountain this coming weekend (Sept 16), then back to WV for the final race of the Snowshoe Series (Sept 23). The season’s almost over…. already? Where does the time go?

Team BGB-MK Results:

Max Morgan – 3rd Pro Men
Nick Frantz – 4th Men Cat 2 30-39
Jay Guidry – 4th Men Cat 2 19-29
Heither Schultz – 3rd Women’s Cat 2/3 All Ages
