2012 FMB World Tour Bearclaw Invitational
The last stop on the FMB World Tour calendar before the big Diamond events, Bearclaw Invitational, based at Mt.Washington (CAN) is Darren Berrecloth's 'little baby'. As well as being a top class rider, Darren still finds the time to organize a super chilled event with a challenging Slopestyle course. Incorporating long canons, huge step up -- step downs, and technical dirt jumps the course is difficult to ride and tricking it, is simply insane. But the riders went all out and once again showed that Slopestyle is progressing and becoming increasingly competitive.
For the first time, Bearclaw invited AM riders to come and jam at an official Bronze event that took place on the Friday before the big Pro event on Saturday. Reece Wallace won the AM comp pulling off massive 360's off the step down. Paul Genovese came in second and Jack Fogelquist took third place after coming out and whipping everything on the course. These riders should definitely look at stepping up to Pro comps next year.
Look to the main event, Sam Pilgrim and Cam McCaul who were unable to compete decided to help out in the commentary box and bask in the mountain sun. They defiantly had a lot to comment on as the riders began experimenting new combos and gnarly tricks off crazy features. A lot of riders enjoyed the step up -- step down, Anthony tried to put down a front flip on the step up but lack of speed was an issue. Cam Zink secured a solid first run but didn't feel stoked about it so he set out to absolutely cane his second run but a sketchy landing after over rotating a flip left him far from where he wanted to be. TSG rider, Thomas Genon was expected to have an epic event, this young daredevil was hoping for some serious points but he fell ill and managed to secure an 8thplace finish. Thomas has had a good season and next year will defiantly be a contestant for the title.
All eyes were on Brandon Semenuk at Bearclaw because a win would put him at the top of the overall ranking, pushing Martin Soederstroem down in to second. Martin took over the lead of the FMB World Tour from Sam Pilgrim after Colorado Freeride Festival, but his lead was short lived. North American riders like Brandon and Brett Rheeder are climbing up the scoreboard at a record-breaking speed. Brandon has not lost an event this season and stands out as a rider doing tricks that no one else dare do. Whatever magic potion he is drinking it is working it's magic! Going into the Diamond events everyone will want to see if Brandon can do equally as well on the Big Mountain.
With Brandon's competitors edging to break his incredible winning streak at Red Bull Joyride we move into the Diamond events eager to witness all the fantastic action.
