Introducing The Pivot Reynolds Enduro Team

PHOENIX, AZ – For release March 31, 2016 – Pivot Cycles is happy to announce the formation of the Pivot/Reynolds Enduro Team. The team is comprised of three riders – Adam Snyder (Durango, CO), Mason Bond (Grass Valley, CA) and Brice Shirbach (Brookhaven, PA).  Adam is a winner of the Eastern Enduro Triple Crown overall championship and is a top five athlete in the North American Enduro Tour overall rankings. Mason is the team’s young gun, with the style and speed needed to make an impression on the podium and in team edits. Brice brings years of XC and Enduro racing to the table and is a well known contributor to Pinkbike and Dirt Rag Magazine, and was recently involved in a Teton Gravity Research project. His successful East Bound and Down series will continue in 2016, as will 2 new video series.

“We love supporting up and coming riders at Pivot. Adam, Mason and Brice all shred and we are excited to be working withthem as they make the jump from NAET to EWS enduro racing.” said Pivot Cycles CEO Chris Cocalis.  “Our athlete programs are essential to product development and we look forward to the crew’s contributions to the future of Pivot bikes.”

The Pivot/Reynolds Enduro Team will be competing at both Enduro World Series and North American Enduro Tour events, as well as the Dirty Sanchez, Big Mountain Enduro and North American Crankworx races. In between events, the team will be traveling across the United States, producing three different video series: “Down Time”, a three part series focused on the stoke a rider finds on his hometown trails, “When in Rome” a series documenting the shredding and atmosphere found off of the track at NAET and other North American events, and finally, in partnership with Pinkbike, rider Brice Shirbach will be producing a new video series in conjunction with his popular East Bound and Down editorial column called "Local Flavors", the first of which has just been published, featuring the riding in Ocala, Florida. Ocala, Florida is quickly becoming a destination for riders from around the USA. The local trail system is currently experiencing a renaissance courtesy of builder Ray Petro (of the famous Ray’s Indoor Mountain Bike parks) and the Santos MTB Festival and the "Local Flavors" edit is an sensory oriented edit showcasing the best singletrack Ocala has to offer.

BIKES AND WHEELS

The Pivot Reynolds Enduro team will be riding Pivot Mach 6 Carbon and Mach 429 Trail models. The versatile Mach 6 Carbon is Pivot’s dedicated enduro bike with 155mm of dw-link™ suspension – perfect for the big, technical courses of the Enduro World Series. They will also ride the Mach 429 Trail, with its innovative mid-travel dw-link™ design, which will be the perfect choice on the varied courses of the NAET and other classic North American venues.

Co-title sponsor Reynolds Cycling will be taking care of the team’s wheel needs. “Taking stock of what really matters to those

who live to push the limits on a mountain bike, ride-quality and durability, we are supplying the team with wheels from our new Black Label line-up to complement their chosen bikes.  They will race predominantly on our new Black Label 27.5 Enduro and 29 Enduro which feature a 28mm wide, hookless and asymmetric rim laced to our Reynolds straight pull, center lock hub by Industry Nine.  Wider is better, if you engineer the build to match the desired outcome.  With evenly tensioned uniform lengths of bladed spokes these guys will enjoy a ride quality second to none with proven durability to charge with confidence” said Reynolds Cycling CFO Mike Dufner.

The sponsorship is the brand’s first foray into the enduro race scene following the success of their latest line of Black Label mountain carbon wheels.

“Enduro style riding, making use of a multitude of terrain and features, is what inspired the design of our new Black Label products.  Having proven the durability under the saddles of Bernard Kerr and the Pivot DH team we were looking for riders who could ride the wheels everywhere from rock gardens and berms to technical climbs and step-ups. We are excited about watching this team push the limits from their backyards to the slopes of Andes and having proven themselves on the bike and behind the camera gives us the full package of what we look for in sponsored athletes.  These guys represent who most mountain bikers are and want to be!”

The All New 2016 Pivot Phoenix DH Carbon

Set your racing on fire. With input from the Pivot Factory racing team, the new Phoenix DH Carbon is 2/3 of a lb lighter, and offers more go-fast features than any other gravity offering on the market. In this video, rider Bernard Kerr, Eliot Jackson and Emilie Siegenthaler offer their input and feedback on what makes the new Phoenix their choice for the 2016 World Cup and Crankworx season.

For 2016, the new Phoenix Carbon has dropped over 300 grams. Pivot’s frame shapes are 100% driven by our pursuit of the perfectly tuned ride, the cleanest design, the strongest product and the lightest possible weight. With our own hollow core, internal, high compression carbon molding process we can deliver on the performance requests of our top athletes by finding the perfect combination of composite materials and shapes for the best possible ride qualities. For us, it means that we put months of engineering and testing into the update, for you (and Bernard Kerr), it means a sub 31lb downhill bike that can land a 30 ft gap into a nose wheelie with confidence.

Dave Weagle, the brains behind dw‐link® and Chris Cocalis, Pivot’s president and founder, have worked together to produce incredible suspension designs since Pivot was launched. For the Phoenix Carbon, they have created a bike that uses the best attributes of the dw‐link® for the ultimate in downhill performance. With the dw‐link’s anti squat and variable wheel travel path and we were able to develop a bike that pedals better than anything else in the downhill category. Because the Phoenix Carbon doesn’t squat or bob under pedaling force we are able to lower the bottom bracket height and slacken the head angle to achieve the best performance in the most technical sections while also maintaining precise handling on the faster sections of the course.

    2016 Pivot Phoenix Geometry

For 2016, and as a direct result of feedback from our athletes, the Phoenix Carbon comes with the Fox Float X2. While still coil compatible for riders who prefer that set up, our racers have found that the Fox Float X2 air shock offers better control and a plusher feel allowing them to go faster with greater confidence. The X2 shock features include independent high and low speed compression and rebound adjustments, an EVOL air sleeve for better sensitivity through the reduction in the amount of force it takes to initiate travel, exclusive Kashima coat for durability and friction reduction and the new RVS (Rod Valve System) for a seamless transition between the response to small and large impacts and less harshness. * **

(Float X2 on the Expert build features hard anodized body and independent low speed compression and rebound adjustments)

With the air spring and volume adjust spacers, the Fox Float X2 is far more tunable for rider weight and course conditions than is a coil shock with a selection of springs. After a full season of racing on both shock types, our athletes and in house test riders universally chose the Float X2 as their preferred option.

The Phoenix features 204 mm of travel and is designed to be at the forefront of World Cup racing geometry – long and low – with a range of reach measurements to accommodate a wide range of rider sizes and riding styles. We’ve carefully designed our frames so that both riders who want a racing stance meant for the steeps and those who seek a shorter, more playful fit can find exactly the right Phoenix Carbon.

Every size frame has the same headtube length and seat tube lengths. Riders who want a shorter top tube can go down a size for a playful bike that handles the park with style – perfect for the next Whip-Off World Championships. Riders who want a missile on the racecourse may select a larger size with a longer toptube. For sharper handling with a longer frame, the angled headset offers a plus minus ¾ degree adjustment, especially with the Phoenix 30mm stem option.

The Phoenix Carbon features ultra short 440mm chainstays, and 27.5” wheels. This ultra compact rear triangle rivals 26”wheel designs for handling characteristics with the speed and roll over of 27.5 inch wheels. Additionally, the larger wheels offer a significant increase in contact patch size and stability – even if the course puts you in the back seat, your front wheel is going to track where you want it.

We’ve designed this full carbon frame with the obsessive detailing you expect from Pivot. New for 2016 is the significant increase in tire clearance. A direct result of requests from our racers – this new Phoenix Carbon has tons of room for big knobs and mud for the best performance on messy tracks.

In addition to challenges from terrain and weather, downhill bikes are subject to incredible abuse in a season – from racing to crashing to training shuttles, smart frame protection will give long life to your investment. For this new Phoenix frame, we carefully studied wear patterns on frames ridden everywhere from the World Cup to the backcountry of Colombia, and added updated rubberized frame protection. Now in addition to the molded rubber downtube protector, the seatstay protector on the drive side has doubled in length and we’ve incorporated new protection on the front upright of the rear triangle – all while still dropping an incredible amount of weight.

The Phoenix Carbon also features integrated rubber fork stops at the headtube for even more protection. These same stops do double duty as a part of the Pivot Cable Port System for internal routing. This is the easiest to use internal routing system available and keeps the bike looking clean and functioning perfectly. The 2016 Phoenix features 2 new paint options – Team Blue or Stealth Black.

    Pivot Mach 429 Trail

The greatest trail bikes do everything well, no matter what or where you ride, and Pivot’s new Mach 429 Trail raises the bar for amazing bikes even higher. Our goal when designing the Mach 429 Trail was to create a new category of trail bike - one that takes advantage of the best features of 29 and yet maintains the performance characteristics that make you forget about wheelsize and, instead, translate to the “best-ride-ever,” every time you ride.

We produced many iterations of this new design, tweaking angles and measurements with each generation of prototype and ride testing every version until we created the perfect formula. The result? A bike with the incredible pedaling efficiency and small bump compliance of the dw-link™ design, a slack front end and a short back end that is fast, flickable, and energy efficient.

To complement this new 29er formula, you’ll find Boost™ 148 spacing, our own hollow core, internal, high compression carbon molding and the obsessive detailing you expect from Pivot. Effortless trail bike handling, incredible power transfer and precise cornering are all yours, without compromise, in the perfectly balanced chassis of the Mach 429 Trail. It is the perfect choice for your next ride.

PIVOT'S NEW MID TRAVEL LINKAGE DESIGN

The 429 Trail marks the introduction of Pivot’s new mid-travel trail linkage design, specifically for trail bikes. With major influences from the clevis design of the Phoenix DH Carbon and Mach 6 Carbon, the 429 Trail utilizes an entirely new upper linkage to provide the same ultra-precise control and bottomless feel of our longer travel dw-link designs in a more compact, lighter package for trail applications.

When we pair the new upper linkage design with the same lower linkage design that we utilize on the Mach 6 Carbon, the result is a bike that you can take anywhere and over anything – an incredibly versatile 29er with seemingly endless suspension and noticeably increased traction. The Mach 429 Trail’s dw-link™ suspension delivers unmatched handling characteristics combined with pedaling efficiency and climbing capability for riders who demand the best performance in both XC and technical terrain.

To match the never ending feel of the Mach 429 Trail’s rear suspension, we’ve paired it with the new 130mm Fox 34 for a perfectly balanced ride both on the ups and downs. This fork sets the new bar for trail specific suspension performance.

To complement these trail-proven angles, you’ll find new Boost™ 148 spacing in the rear and 110mm front hub spacing. The extra width between dropouts with the Boost™ system lends itself perfectly to Pivot’s drive to produce the stiffest frames with the best energy transfer available. The extra room between hub flanges gives that 29er wheel a ride feel that is as precise as any wheelsize with the added advantage of big-wheel rollover capability. In addition to enhanced frame and wheel stiffness, the Boost™ system also enables us to add more tire clearance, allowing for a wider range of condition specific tire choices.

When creating the Mach 429 Trail, our engineers worked to find the perfect combination of purposeful, clean, composite design for strength, large cross sections for stiffness, and the right combination of composite materials to produce a high value frame worthy of the name Pivot. With our hollow-core, internal-molding process to bring this vision to reality, riders can now put the Mach 429 Trail at the top of the list when it comes to choosing a one-bike quiver.

Additionally, we’ve designed this full carbon frame with value in mind – building on our years of composite layup and construction experience – we’ve maintained the highest levels of stiffness and strength to weight, while making focused changes to keep the costs down and the technical advantages high, such as strategic, easy-to-service external routing combined with key features of the Pivot Cable Port System – including ports for use with an internal dropper post and clean cable/housing routing through the chainstays.

Debuting on the Mach 429 Trail is a new ultra-clean, removable front derailleur mount. For those that want to run two chainrings, this mount offers the best shifting performance you can get, utilizing Shimano’s new side-swing front derailleur system.

For those who love the simple functionality of 1x systems, remove the front derailleur mount for an incredibly sleek, clean installation with almost no evidence of the un-needed hardware.

Our mountain bikes feature the PF92 bottom bracket. Collaboratively developed by our engineers and Shimano, this allows for wider pivots and better bearing support, both of which contribute to increased frame stiffness and strength as well as the best bearing longevity.

Other essential details include post mount disc brake mounts for easy set up and weight savings, internal stealth dropper compatibility and Enduro Max cartridge bearings throughout. There are mounts for 2 waterbottles on every frame and the Mach 429 Trail is available in 4 sizes – S, M, L, XL – and in two great colors.

The Mach 429 Trail frame and rear shock retail for $2,499 USD. The Mach 429 Trail is available in eight different build options, from a value-oriented XT/SLX build ($3,999 USD to an XTR dream kit ($7,699) USD for complete build kit information, technical specs and more visit our site. The first shipment of Mach 429 Trail hits stores next week - see your dealer to order.
