YT Industries to Auction off Rampage Signature Frames for Paul Basagoitia
This year’s Red Bull Rampage was overshadowed by the serious injury of Paul Basagoitia. The American’s life is now thankfully out of danger, but he will still have to undergo a lengthy and costly rehabilitation process. For this reason, Rampage sponsor YT has decided to auction off its TUES CF Rampage Signature Frames and to donate the proceeds towards Paul Basagoitia’s medical costs.
Mountain biking is an activity which by its very nature involves a lot of risk, and Red Bull Rampage is one of the most extreme sporting events of all time. The riders prepare meticulously onsite for a week and they participate knowing the risks, but injuries are part of reality for these athletes – they are in principle impossible to avoid, even when you benefit from the best possible medical assistance onsite. The tragic accident of Paul Bas makes this very clear.
After a long and complicated operation Paul is out of immediate danger and he is expected to progress towards recovering from his injuries. However, he has a long and hard road ahead of him, and one that is very costly.
Red Bull Rampage sponsor YT Industries has therefore decided to auction off on eBay the 4 Rampage Signature Frames that Andreu Lacondeguy, Cam Zink, Kelly McGarry and Yannick Granieri rode in Utah. 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go towards Paul Basagoitia’s medical costs. Said YT’s CEO Markus Flossmann: “Our thoughts and our best wishes are with Paul and his family. We sincerely hope he will make a full recovery! He faces difficult times however, and rehabilitation can be very costly. As we know, pro mountain bikers don’t exactly earn football salaries, which makes that financial burden so much more difficult to bear. With the auction of our Rampage frames we want to at least make a small contribution to assist Paul and his family. We also hope that the mountain bike community will consider participating!”
The 4 TUES CF Rampage Signature frames will be put up for auction on eBay as of Thursday October 23:
