2011 Parkfield Classic

The 2011 Parkfield Classic kicked off this past weekend. It is located about an hour and a half North/East of San Luis Obispo. The event is the official kickoff to the Collegiant race series. Typically turnout for the race is a majority of College students.

This year the campground was not too loud. People stayed up late had a good time and shared BBQ tips and techniques at the neighbors grill while sucking down cheap beers. The pixie bike race somehow turned into a jump contest and a few competitors were throwing 360's and tail-whips over the wood ramps.

The race track has not changed in about seven or eight years now. It is high speed with considerable flow through trees over tight singletrack. There are a few obstacles thrown in for good measure such as g-outs, jumps and a slew of turns. Both big and small bikes have won here so it does not favor on type of bike over the other.

The course record is somewhere in the low one forty neighborhood and was set on a Dual-Slalom bike way back when. The fastest time of the race was 1:45 but at this time we do not know who it was.
